about

8 pieces of piano solo, each lasting a page of manuscript paper.

Having had an academic compositional education I found that I was obsessively overcomplicating everything I wrote, or refusing to write anything without a certain need for difficulty. This turned quickly into complete writers block for a long while, broken slightly by this year's album ZEPHYR. With those pieces having been created and performed digitally, I still felt that I didn't have anything that was for me to play and enjoy as a musician, so I decided to write some solo piano pieces.

Each of these pieces is one page long. I'd incorrectly remembered (self-deceived?) that a piece that was one page long was called an 'album leaf' (it's not - it's just a term for a short incidental piece), so I decided to just write a few of these falsely defined pieces, and found it hugely refreshing. They didn't take long to write, finding myself doing one or two an evening, and then I had eight of them.
The title itself is a reference to these 'album leafs' (see above) and that I wrote them in Summer. Since I wrote them at the end of August, there's also a fun little reference to seasonal change. The pieces themselves are eight musical short stories that I've come to be very fond of.

I've been really interested in self-publishing sheet music for original ('classical') music, and Bandcamp seemed to be a fairly decent platform for it! I'm trying out bundling the PDF of the score alongside the recordings themselves, so to purchase the score you also buy the recordings. It's something I've wanted to test out for a while as it could be interested for smaller composers such as myself to generate even the smallest revenue from our work.

The PDF contains both the scores themselves and the scans of the handwritten manuscripts.
