New Words 04:41
New words, old meanings New words, old feelings That slip through the net That make their home in the nape of you neck New words Always complaining said the clothesline to the raining Said the ashtray to the pain of letting go Don’t you know [CHORUS] The bravest move as you waltz round the room As you let me know the mood is right It’s hard to tell where the wishing well stops And the concrete begins The heat of the evening burned a hole through the ceiling Now we’re under stars that we cannot name And I see your smile as you turn and say “I’ve heard those words but never spoke them But I feel safe here, But I feel safe” “I’ve heard those words but never spoke them But I feel safe here, But I feel safe with you” [CHORUS] I’ve heard those words, but never spoke them That I feel safe, That I feel safe, With you

Crumb 03:48
I fight the pigeons away I wrestle with needles and hay I work ‘til my fingers are numb For a crumb Efforts were made on my side You never realised I’d tried I wish that I wasn’t so dumb For a crumb Ego, that’s what’s been battered and bruised Falling, what’s there to lose? I feel a pain in my chest I wish you the best of the best I hope that you know what I’ve done For a crumb Oh, maybe in time I’ll learn to love the things that are mine Or finally at last I’ll just change the past Or finally at last I’ll just change the past You laugh but you’d jump at the chance Maybe I’ve outstayed my time I’ve run out of reasons and rhymes I hope that you know what I’ve done For a crumb, for a crumb, for a crumb, for a crumb

I look across to you my darling We’re running out of road There’s petrol in the tank but no where to go The sunset’s out of focus The landscape slowly fades The windmills and the balconies dissolve [CHORUS] Darling at least we’ll watch this together Hold my hand and watch the world disappear Pull back, zoom out, blue speck Oh perspective will change everything Perspective will change everything soon The wheels grind the tarmac The handbrake set in place The hurricane is overhead Horizon’s tearing down I said “Hold me, no matter just Hold me, for better or, No matter just, for better or worse just hold me, No matter just, for better or worse just hold me [ CHORUS ]

about

This record is a celebration of happy accidents and embracing the potential for failure.

It is also a celebration of live music and the joy of music making, together.

The songs are some of the most simple that I’ve ever written – I deliberately let myself just “write” without trying to overcomplicate anything.

The instrumentation was a complete gamble. I messaged a bunch of my friends to see who was around and then orchestrated it based on availability. Slowly the shape of the ten-piece ensemble formed, with the joyous presence of three flutes and three saxophones. This is also the record I’ve played the least on, allowing my own guitar parts can sit back and enjoy the view.

One Saturday we all gathered in MusicBox Studios, under the expert eyes and ears of Ed Truckell at the desk. A few hours later and the three tracks were recorded – and most importantly, it was great fun to do. There was also pizza and donuts.

This record is about the pleasure of not knowing, the stories of attempts made and the growth from failure.
